Shillong and Mawlynnong, Meghalaya

Khasi market in Shillong.Same thing from a different angle.
Mawlynnong is a beautiful, surreal village known as "The Cleanest Village in Asia." When this bus left, three guys with dustpans appeared out of nowhere and cleaned the dirt where the wheels had been.

Why should a man be charged for expelling waste from his body?

This is great!
I read a blurb in a french magazine about the village and googled it to find out more about it.
The article also said it has a strong matriarcal tradition. We need to know more about it.
Do you have any info on it?

The village ( as all other Khasi villages) have a matriarchal tradition. Saw this first hand at the village when I had gone to our guide's house. His married sister living in her parents house, her husband having moved in with her. Our guide, on the other hand, would have to go to his bride's house after his marriage. Property is also passed on to the youngest daughter in the Khasi tradition.
