All the older Apatani women in Ziro have plugs through their nostrils (which look like black poker chips) and facial tatoos. This was done to prevent neighboring tribes from stealing their women. I don't have any pictures of this.

Ohh, what a lovely trip and interesting blog!
Did you visit Ziro, Pasighat and Along by your own? people say I need a guide to visit this areas and the tribal villages, what do you think about?
thanks!!
I did! We didn't have a guide with us. A few times, at roadside checkpoints, we were asked why we didn't have one. We told them that our guide was meeting us in the next town. Also, we mentioned the name of the travel agency that prepared our permit (you definitely need one of those). People in each town were eager to guide us, probably because it's unusual to travel without a guide in those villages. Keep in mind that this was in 2007, so things might be different now. Good luck!
And I'm glad the blog has been interesting to you! You're going to love these villages.
